Our Teachers

The mediocre teacher tells, The good teacher explains, The superior teacher demonstrates, The great teacher inspires. William Arthur Ward

KATE BEHREND R.A.D rts - Artistic Director (Arco)

KATE BEHREND R.A.DKate established Dance Dynamics Byron Bay in 2000. Her dream was to create a school where children can thrive personally, technically and creatively. She instils in her school the development of a clean ballet and dance technique via safe dance practise. Her ethos and methods have taken the school from it's humble beginnings, to a leading centre. Dance Dynamics has had the pleasure of seeing many students being accepted as fulltime students into illustrious city-based dance schools such as; National College of Dance, Brent Street, Ev & Bow to name a few. These students have moved on to careers as professional dancers and/or qualified teachers.

Kate is a big advocate for guiding children to develop their intrinsic motivation while actively rejecting the clichéd pushy ‘dance mum’ environment than can be so prevalent in the dance industry. This develops a well-rounded, mentally healthy child that is self-motivated and capable of achieving their desires, without the negative mental impacts common in the industry.

Kate was four years old when she began dancing at the Tessa Maunder Ballet School in Newcastle. By six years of age she was performing regularly in competitions and events, both as a soloist and as a troupe member. At fourteen, Kate’s talent for dance was recognised when she was accepted into fulltime training at the Marie Walton Academy of Dance (now known as the National College of Dance). Kate has danced with the Australian Ballet Company in their rendition of “Swan Lake”. Kate began her formalised dance teacher training through the Royal Academy of Dance, graduating three years later with distinction.

Determined to understand the power of the mind in order to benefit the development of elite dancers, Kate gained qualifications in NLP-Neuro Semantics and The Demartini Method. She incorporates this knowledge into her teaching which greatly benefits Dance Dynamics students.

As well as being a qualified dance teacher with over twenty years teaching experience, Kate is a regular consultant to dancers and dance schools (both locally and interstate), and a frequent contributor to “Dance life Australia”. Most importantly to Kate, she is a dedicated wife and mother.
